Hello again, I'm back to hopefully get things moving along and at least go out for the last part of this year with some good fun PR related content. Today's topic- The Jason vs Tommy classic conflicts and battle scenes. This topic strongly connects on to our upcoming Turbo Movie. discussion. The second Movie connected to Power Rangers. I have one other entry planned to launch soon which will talk about the two canceled projects that were also associated with that film. For now let's focus on this story. Going back to the first season when these characters were officially introduced, Jason Scott was the Red Ranger and he was the true team leader. He was a dynamic hero, and also the one who pushed the others to keep on going in the face of uncertainty. Tommy Oliver the classic Green Ranger is in many ways the opposite of Jason. He has a happy attitude and is often cool under pressure but also has his own tough attitude which builds up over time making him into the character he ultimately becomes by the time he dons the White Ranger identity. He also has a strong aura of mystery about him. Now before we go any further, I want to give a quick note that this article is in no way trying to promote one character over the other. I am only going through my own thoughts on this subject and these fight scenes. I also welcome comments from both Tommy fans as well as Jason fans alike. When Tommy was first introduced, we got the amazing multi part event- "Green With Evil". Where in Rita Repulsa controls Tommy mind and makes him into her own evil Ranger. While Tommy is under Rita's evil spell, He and Jason battled three times. They also had an opening fight at the Karate event at the Youth center in the first part which very much serves as a introduction to Tommy's skills. This first fight also sets up a saga of sorts for the two of them throughout this story. The first fight is officially judged to be a draw. With Jason usually being the main Karate guy about town, it shakes him when he meets a guy who has own incredible skill set and can potentially defeat him. This is also how both Rita and Kimberly become intrigued by Tommy. When they fight again while morphed in the same episode Tommy is even stronger thanks to Rita's magic, and easily gets the best of Jason. However the rangers retreat when the Green Ranger appears too tough for them. In the third chapter Jason and Tommy fight again within the confines of Rita's Dark Dimension. In the Dark Dimension Jason's morpher was taken from him and Tommy now has an even stronger advantage over him since he has his powers and Jason is just himself. While in this difficult position Jason attempts to reason with him trying to tell him how Rita is using him like a puppet, however evil Tommy isn't listening. Thanks to Billy Jason is teleported out before The Green Ranger can finish him for good. This fight scene is really fun and spooky. In the fifth and final chapter Jason and Tommy battle again and so do their zords. I love the excitement when the T-rex zord battles the Dragon Zord. It is only in the final battle that Jason is able to defeat Tommy and force him to drop the Sword of Darkness and destroy it ending the spell. I have always seen this arc as a great way to build up both characters and I genuinely love how they each go through some dramatic moments throughout this special event.
The classic episode "Gung Ho" also features a little conflict for these two as they learn how valuable it really is for them to rely on each other. However they never actually fully turn on each other here. They do argue and have tension as well as display competitive attitudes. During their struggle against Titansus however they realize they must work together to defeat him and obtain the special weapons he protects. Jason also gets to wear Tommy's shield briefly. The story ends with Tommy and Jason properly working together during their match against Bulk and Skull's ninja students. Despite not featuring as dramatic a conflict as some other stories, I do appreciate this one a lot. The Final Mighty Morphin episode that ties in here from Season 2 is known as "The Green Dream". In this episode Tommy falls under Lord Zedd's control and now has orders to steal the mysterious Sword of Power, which strangely only exists in this episode. I will never truly understand why the Sword of Power is never brought up again or properly explained. However I always love hearing Tommy's classic evil laugh, so I'm glad that was included again for this episode. Tommy delivers the Sword to Robogoat (the featured evil monster) who uses it against the Rangers. Tommy was only mind controlled long enough to retrieve the sword here. Still when Tommy betrays them yet again, you can definitely see Jason's face twitch a little. I do also have to admit the Sword does give Robogoat a strong advantage which is kind of cool. This is also the famous episode where the Dragon Zord can't power up due to Tommy's energy running low, when he trys to summon it. Well there you go that concludes the recap on the Mighty Morpin Jason and Tommy conflicts. I will of course set up another article to talk about the Zeo event- "King for a Day", since this entry is already so long. Green With Evil of course remains my favorite of these stories. However each one remains very memorable to me. I look forward to bringing out my Zeo story article very soon. As well as still setting aside some time to talk about the Turbo movie. Also happy early Halloween!
