One of my favorite Red Rangers; Nick Russell was simply fantastic. Udonna set up a situation to find the humans who were best suited to become Rangers. She disguises herself with magic as an old man, who claims to have lost his brother in the mysterious woods. Nick is the first to volunteer to help. Nick's character was quite brash and sometimes standoffish. However Nick had lived a hard life drifting from home to home and family to family. During my time growing up I went to five different schools as a kid. So though I never had it as hard as Nick, I feel I can relate to him knowing it is hard to make friends when you never stay in one place too long. I also enjoy Nick's wild humor. Nick has a hard time believing in magic at first, but when his new friends are in trouble, he steps up and discovers his incredible abilities. Nick takes the reins as leader of the Mystic Force Rangers. Nick and Koragg have a dramatic conflict throughout the first part of the season. Koragg stuck to a strong code of honor and while he was loyal to the Supreme Master, he often helped the Rangers in order to keep magic in balance. Nick and Koragg often argued but also occasionally found common ground. Then after Koragg confronted his inner darkness he became freed of the spell and we learned he was Nick's father Leanbow.
Udonna, the White Ranger is in fact Nick's mother and Clare the junior sorceress in training is his cousin. Nick's true destiny unfolded as he confronted many enemies and faced new challenges. He made friends with Phineas the Troblin creature and became the caretaker of Fireheart the Dragon. Nick also learned well from Daggeron and in turn taught him some new things as well. Nick and Xander argued at times, but together they proved a powerful team, when the odds were against them Xander's speech helped Nick embrace his friends. Nick also occasionally disagrees with Vida but they also strongly respect each other. Nick has found that Chip can get carried away but he is also a true hero and Nick respects him as such. I like the Nick and Madison pairing a lot because Madison has a very strong resolve that forms over the season and that helps Nick became a better Red Ranger through the influence she has on him. I think these two challenge each other quite well as Nick gave Madison a reason to break out of her shell. So this is a rare occasion where I think the Cannon Couple is a fantastic one. However I do also enjoy considering alternative Nick pairs. Nick and Leelee was never meant to be on the show really. However I liked Leelee's character a lot and I think if perhaps her plot might have been done a bit different the Nick and Leelee connection could have been more entertaining. Also when I started watching this season I had a couple thoughts on Nick and Clare. Power Rangers is a fantasy to begin with so I personally see nothing wrong with shipping a pair that might not work in real life within a fantasy. However we can discuss those pairings more some other time. Nick got to ride a dragon! No other Red Ranger has done that. Maybe he had a lot of power-ups and he sometimes he pushed people away, so I can understand why he's not everyone's favorite but he's definitely one of my favorite characters in this season! Nick is played by Firass Dirani. His zord forms were both phoenixes but the second one was more bird-like and the first one was a metal giant with Phoenix armor. Nick remains a cool Red Ranger in my book!
It is great the way you relate these Rangers to your own life experiences. That makes your life and your blog much richer.
