I apologize to all my followers, for any trouble with this Site, from when it was disabled for a short time. I had to clear up some bothersome issues, but that's all over now! A new year has begun and there's been a lot of real world drama, which is why I'm really happy to have my Blog working just fine now! So let's pick up where we left off! Movie Reviews!!
The Original Film was released on June 30th 1995! This is the theatrical version of the Ninja Quest or the origin of the Season 3 Powers. I've read some other reviews of this film and seen people criticize it often. Also it seems a lot of people were expecting the original cast. Not everyone was happy to see the Stone Canyon Trio in this film. Please note I did an article on them entitled "Expanding on the Stone Canyon Trio!" I love these guys! I really love Aisha! She was amazing in this movie. It was her, who saved the Megazord in the heat of the final battle! Also there's a couple Billy and Aisha moments here. Almost like the two of them were getting closer! That stare certainly caught my attention. I also love Adam & Rocky's fancy Double Whammy kick used on an Ooze Kid! Seriously through everyone tries to look at this through such a serious lens! This movie is fun! It's wild! It has a fantastic sound track. There is a lot of focus on The Rangers going after "The Great Power" but they're not doing that for themselves, they're doing it for Zordon! I feel that gives the story more Oomph! Ivan Ooze is tricky, deadly, and deceiving. He likes to rhyme! He likes to corner his opponents. He really helps sell the show. I also am a fan of Fred Kelman played by Jamie Croft. He's a inspiring mini hero! There's a lot more on the line here than in the four-part TV event and there's some real struggle moments. I think if you just try and have fun with this story and not try to look at it super serious like, you'l enjoy it a lot more! For a super hero film of the Nineties, this rocks! It's a story I will never be sick of!
Now let's talk about some flaws, because they do exist but I'm still judging this as a movie I do really respect. I wish Bulk and Skull were in the movie more. They're in the opening Until Ivan Ooze is set free, and then they disappear for a long time! Then we just randomly see them at the big party that Fred disrupts. If they had been on screen more, this Movie probably would have been better rated. I would've liked the story to slow down once or twice, it goes at a really fast pace. The sets look fantastic, but you get swept up in the action so quickly, there's not always time to take it in. I wouldn't mind a little more Lord Zedd in here either. His movie design is pretty good. Out of the small set of characters redesigned for the film, Alpha 5 oddly gets the most screen time. He spends a lot of it failing to contact the Rangers while they're off world. It looks like Zordon and Alpha are nearly at their witt's end here. I love the Ooze Commercials though! Great way to show off Ivan's charisma! "You may have heard the phrase, Looks can be deceiving, I'm sure that once you've tried it, you all will be believing!" - Ivan Ooze! There's humor here and there's some romance. The romance isn't very well highlighted though. Those scenes could be improved. However the Tommy and Kimberly moment is not actually romantic in my eyes. She's worried about Zordon there. Tommy understands this and talks to her respectfully, he sees her shaken, and knows she needs help. He does exactly what a good boyfriend should. I like that fine the way it is. The Romance I think should be peaked at is maybe Adam and Dulcea or Billy and Aisha. Characters that have very small moments but still strong chemistry. Dulcea is another character I would've liked to seen explored more. She is Gorgeous and strong-willed with a fiery determination. Her perception is often on point as well, it's no wonder her spirit-animal is an Owl! A perfect fit in my opinion. She's also cursed and unable to leave her homeworld. I would love if she had a more expanded backstory. Also there's a hint of an old power struggle between Ivan and Zordon. I think that story would be cool to see! This concludes my discussion on changes and improvements.
The Zords look really cool. Only the Bear and Ape Zords look the most different from TV. Also Aisha got a fun battle line in-"Time to Boogie with the Bear!" I also appreciate the use of science in a couple fight scenes; Like Tommy removing the neck brace from the Skeleton Dinosaur, or the use Of Orion's Comet to destroy Ivan Ooze! I'm glad they show how science is useful to our heroes! Now on to Fred Kelman. His mom is clearly dead and his dad spends most of the film under a spell. Still the fact he keeps such a calm head during all this is amazing, not realistic but amazing! He knows something is wrong, when his dad's not home. He goes after him, he sees the situation is more than he can handle, so he recruits more kids and he leads a revolution! They save all the parents and even Bulk and Skull get involved. It's very inspiring! They should get more credit! Still though, their courage here is unquestionable! The spirit of heroism touches many in this film and I think that is quite well respected with 'Dreams" by Van Halen playing for the first part of the credits. We all want to know what dreams are made of and we all seek the one love! That truly is a fantastic message! I hope you can see my good points here, and if you've never watched this or if you haven't seen it in a long time, give it another shot! It's a legitimately fun, heroic and inspiring adventure! A story, where you don't have to know everything about the characters from how they got there. I think that opening crawl says enough. A story with a wickedly entertaining villain, and heroes both big and small! A great treasure indeed. I'm glad this is part of the unit and I'm glad to share my thoughts with you all! The Turbo Movie review is coming soon! Stay Tuned!
The double whammy kick on the Ooze kid sounds totally disgusting. Your writing is fantastic, though as usual, a bit lengthy. Your character analyses are insightful. Great review.
